About

Iona is the coolest vineyard in the Cape 420m above sea-level high above the picturesque Elgin Valley. It is surrounded by the Kogelberg Nature Reserve and overlooks the Atlantic Ocean in the South. In a country where cool sites are precious, these vineyards are like gold — the grapes ripening up to two months later than other Cape vineyards and in perfect balance.

Product Features
  • There is something truly special about Sauvignon Blanc that has been grown in cool conditions.
  • Lower harsh malic acid is converted to juicy tartaric acid when vineyards are grown below 30°C.
  • In 2018 we only had a total of 13 accumulated hours above this cutoff and zero-hours above 35°C during in the last three crucial months of ripening.
  • Lovely low pH enabled the natural yeasts to ferment to complete dryness.
  • The wine is complex with nuances from the wild ferment in large French oak barrels and soft acidity from the cool vineyards, elegant and sophisticated.
  • The grapes were hand-picked and whole bunch pressed.
  • The juice was settled for 12 hours, before being racked to 500L French oak barrels (2nd, 3rd and 4th fill). Fermentation was spontaneous and the temperature was kept between 18-22°C

Dreams are weird

They're like your brain's way of saying: you know what the world really needs? Nonsensical story lines that nobody questions and flying cars.

And even though we know they're absolutely bonkers and possess zero relevance whatsoever, we waste no time telling people all about them.

Sad fact: nobody wants to hear it. There is only one dream worth talking about, and that's Martin Luther King Jr's.

Anyhoo, last night we had a dream where we featured half off tickets to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers live at the Department of Home Affairs. They weren't even performing. They just worked there. Crazy, huh?
