About

The philosophy of Backsberg remains that of providing pleasure and enjoyment to a broad range of wine lovers by producing wines not only with structure and finesse but also with a high level of “drinkability”. To put it simply, if you find our wines easy to drink then we are achieving what we want. This philosophy has to exist under an overall umbrella of Care. Care of our land, our product and the people who work for us – and care of the environment in which we find ourselves.

Product Features
  • This wine is crafted from a hand-picked selection of grapes exhibiting varietal character and intensity.
  • Aromas of Cape gooseberry, citrus blossom and sweetgrass abound.
  • Partial fermentation in French oak barriques provides a delicately spicy and uncommon complexity.
  • Acidity, so essential to Sauvignon Blanc’s appeal, exists in perfect harmony with ripe flavours of lime, fig and pear.
  • Sun worshipping, open-armed lyre trellised vines, ensure maximum fruit ripeness, particularly when planted on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain in weathered granite and Oakleaf soils.
  • The fruit is crushed, allowed to settle and then filled directly into small French oak barrels for a few weeks.
  • To enhance the texture and flavour profile, the juice is aged on the lees in tank for a further 6 months.
  • 2019 Time Atkin - 91 Points

Dreams are weird

They're like your brain's way of saying: you know what the world really needs? Nonsensical story lines that nobody questions and flying cars.

And even though we know they're absolutely bonkers and possess zero relevance whatsoever, we waste no time telling people all about them.

Sad fact: nobody wants to hear it. There is only one dream worth talking about, and that's Martin Luther King Jr's.

Anyhoo, last night we had a dream where we featured half off tickets to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers live at the Department of Home Affairs. They weren't even performing. They just worked there. Crazy, huh?
