Our vision is for this wine to become the Flagship white wine of the Estate. An iconic Sauvignon Blanc-driven ‘Great White’ from Avontuur to show off the best of our terroir and its uniqueness. The Sarabande is not only the name of a stately Spanish dance in triple metre form, but also a tribute to the exceptional race mare and prolific broodmare called Sarabande. She graced the pastures at Avontuur Thoroughbred Stud from 2005 until 2019
Product Features
- Harvested early in the morning when grapes were still cool.
- We selected two vineyards situated high up on the Estate.
- Grapes were de-stemmed, crushed and chilled before giving skin contact for three hours prior to lightly pressing.
- After tank fermentation, the wine was matured in 1st and 2nd fill barrels for 12 months.
- A rich full-bodied wine with interesting minerality from the maritime influence of the terroir, grapefruit following through from the nose.
- Complexity is added by the wood treatment which bodes well for longevity.
