Iona is the coolest vineyard in the Cape 420m above sea-level high above the picturesque Elgin Valley. It is surrounded by the Kogelberg Nature Reserve and overlooks the Atlantic Ocean in the South. In a country where cool sites are precious, these vineyards are like gold — the grapes ripening up to two months later than other Cape vineyards and in perfect balance.
Product Features
- The grapes were selected from two parcels of Syrah vineyards, planted in 2003 on Tukulu soils (50% gravel, 25% friable clay and 25% sand), giving the wine elegance, freshness and purity of fruit.
- Rozy selected 2 Syrah clones, SH9c and SH99. Although not certified, as she includes one herbicide spray each year, Rozy farms according to organic and some biodynamic principles.
- Redberry fruit, spiced with white pepper and floral notes. Supple, intense palate with finely matched by fruit depth.
- Braised lamb and blue cheese pecorino with rosemary and sundried tomato gremolata.
