About

Opstal Estate’s rich history dates back to 1847 when JC Rossouw acquired the farm De Opstal bij de Fonteine. Just over a century later in 1950, 4th generation Carl Everson decided to continue making his own wine instead of joining the local co-operative winery like many other producers. Today, Opstal has a wide range of quality estate wines under three different labels: The fun, easy-drinking and pocket-friendly Sixpence Range; the classical and food-friendly Estate Range; and the premium Heritage Range.

Product Features
  • The Cinsault vineyard, planted in 1997, is really coming to an age now and producing great quality grapes.
  • In combination with the traditional Cabernet Sauvignon, this forms a very exciting blend of racy aromatic freshness and structure.
  • The nose shows lovely red and black cherry aromas with some fresh herbs in the background
  • The palate is light-bodied with juicy fruit and fresh acidity.
  • Grapes were crushed, destalked and pumped into an open-top concrete fermentation tank
  • Controlled fermentation with regular pump-overs and gentle punch downs.
  • Cinsault was 50% whole bunch fermented.
  • Malolactic: 100%

Singles Day: all you need to know in 30 seconds flat

In 1993 a couple of Chinese fellas decided to celebrate their lack of significant others; an anti-Valentine's Day, if you will. They picked 11/11 because of all the 1s - clever, but also sort of heartbreaking.

Singles' Day quickly gained popularity in China. And that makes sense: with a population of over a billion people, there are bound to be more than a few individuals who have been third-wheeling it all their lives.

Then Alibaba struck. The biggest online store in the world marketed the HECK out of it. They sold US$38.4 billion in goods on Singles' Day last year alone.

Which proves two things. Single people clearly have more money than couples, and Alibaba have the best marketing team ever.

In news closer to home, here are over 100 different deals that you can take advantage of if you're single. But also if you're not.
