About

Avontuur Estate has been producing quality wine grapes for more than 140 years and this historical commitment is still reflected today in the range of award-winning wines. New vineyards allow winemaker Jan van Rooyen extra scope to refresh, fine-tune and cross blend. The region is producing some of the countries most layered and intense fruit-driven reds in the country. The passion that Philip Taberer and Jan are investing in the farm is clearly evident in the quality of wines produced from these pristine vineyards.

Product Features
  • The wine has firm tannins and an elegant, juicy mouth-feel whilst the subtle oak regime gives the wine backbone but also softens the taste experience.
  • Ripe fruit and mocha follow-through from the nose making this wine a perfect companion to full-flavoured foods and red meats.
  • Ripe purple plums and dark cherries provide an intense upfront fruit explosion which develops into a slight earthiness with whiffs of sweet spice and mocha/chocolate
  • Harvested at full ripeness (24 ̊ B). De-stemmed and then cold-soaked for 3 days.
  • Initially fermented in rototanks after which malolactic fermentation took place.
  • Barrel- matured in 2nd and 3rd fill French Oak for 11months
  • Drink now but will peak around 2022

Dreams are weird

They're like your brain's way of saying: you know what the world really needs? Nonsensical story lines that nobody questions and flying cars.

And even though we know they're absolutely bonkers and possess zero relevance whatsoever, we waste no time telling people all about them.

Sad fact: nobody wants to hear it. There is only one dream worth talking about, and that's Martin Luther King Jr's.

Anyhoo, last night we had a dream where we featured half off tickets to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers live at the Department of Home Affairs. They weren't even performing. They just worked there. Crazy, huh?
